Pan-United Concrete is looking to replace up to a thousand diesel trucks with battery-electric and hydrogen fuel cell versions to run its concrete business in Singapore. As a first step, the company has turned to Surbana Jurong Pte Ltd, one of Asia’s largest consulting firms, to study the transition’s feasibility.

The Project Development Partnership Agreement also bolsters Pan-United’s goal to offer only low-carbon concrete by 2030 and carbon-neutral concrete products by 2040 before becoming a carbon-neutral ready-mix cement company by 2050. Conele Planetary Mixer

According to the company, its fleet comprises diesel trucks only, which make about 7,000 trips a day in Singapore.

Consultancy Surbana Jurong will now help develop a business plan that considers feasibility in terms of technology and economics and potential carbon dioxide savings.

May Ng, Pan-United’s CEO, said, “There is an urgency to address global warming by all stakeholders. We recognise the benefits and importance of synergistic collaborations to effectively address it and drive the built environment towards net zero.”

The companies did not say when the feasibility study is due nor when they may begin the fleet transition.
