HIGH POINT — In honor of 70 years of making modern furniture, Thayer Coggin is introducing two chairs and a series of tables, as well as re-releasing Milo Baughman’s iconic Ripple chaise lounge.
The company is introducing the Nest chair, designed by Rick Lee and inspired by the natural beauty of a bird’s nest. The chair’s fluid, metallic surface mimics the branch pattern of a nest, with a circular, lattice-like shell.
The Nest chair starts with a full-scale 3D model that is printed to make a mold followed by a lost wax casting in stainless steel. Each chair is then hand finished in several metal finishes, including polished stainless steel, gold or several powder coat colors.
Available for indoor or outdoor use, the Nest chair is dedicated to and in the memories of the founders of the furniture company: Thayer and Dot Coggin.

Thayer Coggin also is introducing the Take 2 lounge chair, what it calls a new take on the modern womb chair.
Influenced by the designs of Eero Saarinen and Milo Baughman, designer Ransom Culler puts a geometric spin on this classic modern chair form. Features include indented interior arm rests, polyblend down and trillium filled cushions, and flared metal legs available in several finishes.
The Palooka tables, designed by Stanley Jay Friedman, are whimsical modern, metal cocktail and tea tables. Inspired by the forms of circular parking garage ramps, the tables feature ascending tiers of curved, metallic surfaces that capture and reflect the light.
Available as a small round tea table, a round cocktail table and larger oval cocktail table, the Palooka series is available in several metal finishes, including polished stainless steel or several powder-coated colored finishes.
Also part of its anniversary celebration, Thayer Coggin is bringing back Baughman’s Ripple chaise lounge, originally conceived in 1966 and featuring the designer’s thin-line geometric metal frame, crisply tailored upholstery and sleek modern forms.
Inspired by the glamorous sets of 1930s Hollywood movies, “the Ripple chaise is a classic design that really exemplifies an era of greatness in Milo Baughman’s expansive output,” said Phil Miller, vice president of Thayer Coggin. “The chaise makes a statement of style and grace. It is a masterful midcentury modern design that is both timeless and luxurious.”
The chaise is available in numerous fabric and leather options with polished stainless steel, brushed bronze or powder coat metal finishes.
In addition to the Ripple chaise, Thayer Coggin will reintroduce several other Milo Baughman design classics during the fall market, including Rock-It, a swivel rocker originally introduced in 1965, and Tight Squeeze, an armless swivel lounger designed in 1976.
The Thayer Coggin showrooms are located adjacent to its workshops at 230 South Road in High Point, and free shuttle service is available.
