A video emerged online appearing to show a single column of rain falling onto a park car has left web users puzzled over what has caused the rare weather phenomenon.
Footage recorded by an onlooker seemingly captures an isolated shower occurring in eastern China.
The video quickly gathered over 30 million clicks online, however the video uploader later admitted that the clip was just a prank.
A single column of 'rain' can be seen pouring to a white car in the car park in eastern China
The 10-second clip was filmed by citizens in Wenzhou of Zhejiang Province and was posted on a Weibo account named 'Wenzhou Weather Enthusiast' on July 14.
It appears that the rain shower only fell onto one SUV, and there are seven cars parked next to the white vehicle.
The 'rain shower' was shot from at least a few floors high, as the camera tilted up.
China's National Meteorological Centre was alerted by web users of the clip.
In a post on Weibo on July 15, the Centre replied: 'I understand that the area has been affected by partial and regional showers, but I have not seen an isolated showers looking so much like a column.'
Video uploader claimed it was isolated shower affected in the region (left). The water marks on the floor shows the 'rain' only falls on one car but not the others (right)
The experts suspected that the 'phenomenon' could be just water pouring out from the top of the building.
Later on the same day, 'Wenzhou Weather Enthusiast' updated the caption of the video which clarified that it was a prank aimed to entertain the web users.
'It was all the camera angle. All I can say is - entertainment,' written in the caption.
A 'behind-the-scene' photo was posted in the comments section showing the isolated shower was created by two men shooting water out from a hose at the rooftop.
Web users were confused and requested 'Wenzhou Weather Enthusiast' to post a video to clarify the claims.
